What better way to start off the blog then with the most famous of restaurant chains. McDonald's, now synonymous with 'fast food', started small, and like any other popular restaurant, hit it off with a killer receipe.
McDonald's, founded by Dick and Mac McDonald (brothers), began in 1948. The menu had just nine items on it. A hamburger, cheeseburger, soda pop, coffee, milk, potato chips, and a slice of pie. The hamburger, their feature item, cost just 15 cents. A year later, in 1949, they replaced their potato chips with french fries. McDonald's french fries were a huge hit and are still a basic menu item today. The same year, milkshakes, Triple Thick Milkshakes to be exact, were also released. Business was booming and the McDonald's brothers were looking for a franchising agent. Ray Croc, an intrigued multi-mixer salesmen, took interest to to the franchise and ended up as their nationwide agent in 1954.
McDonald's grew and grew over the years, selling its 100 millionth hamburger in 1958, and opening its 100th restaurant in 1959, located in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin. The company hit many benchmarks in the next ten years. McDonald's went international, added indoor seating, broadcasted a television commercial, and launched its world famous 'Big Mac'.
