Taco Bell: Piña Colada Frutista Freeze and Steak Quesadilla

Today I'm going to review two Taco Bell menu items, the Piña Colada Frutista Freeze, and a regular steak quesadilla.  Looking online and being a fan of quesadillas, the steak quesadilla naturally looked favorable.  What you see:
"Authentic carne asada steak combined with a blend of three melted cheeses — pepperjack, cheddar and mozzarella — and a creamy Jalapeño sauce all folded in a freshly toasted tortilla."
Sounds yummy. However, this is what I received something a bit different through the drive-thru. What you get:
Authentic carne asada my ass.  First bite tasted like greasy filth.  The cheeses and sauce blend together to make the same flavor found in most Taco Bell menu items.  Its getting old and quite distasteful, literally.  Another issue is the size.  In the 'good' picture above, it looks pretty thick, like there is huge chunks of steak in it.  Not at all.  The tasteless tortilla surrounding this ugly platter was none too good either.  There were maybe 3 good bites in this whole thing, good not great.  I would recommended getting this if you like food the makes you instantly aware of its greasy upcoming. I'll give this disaster a
D-
Now for the drink.
What you see:  The Piña Colada Frutista Freeze, part of a lineup of Taco Bell smoothies, is advertised as if it were a classic beach recipe imported from the Caribbean.  The Piña Colada is shown as a creamy coconut soft drink topped with little slices of pineapple.  Nothing wrong there.  I mean, who wouldn't love a cool drink of that sort in late August? What you get:

Nothing is  really wrong with how it looks.  Of course you realize you aren't going to get a thick glass freshly topped with local pineapple, but that isn't a con.  In my humble opinion, coconut is one of the best smells ever, so naturally I thought the smell was quite appealing.  Upon consumption, I was far more satisfied then I was with the whole quesadilla crap.  The pineapple juice appropriately mixes with the creme of coconut to produce a rather appealing taste.  More then I would expect to come from Taco Bell.  It is rather small, compared to the advertisement, but it is tasty nonetheless.  There is nothing specifically special about this drink, but it is a nice replacement for soda if you order a meal.  I would recommend fans of coconut, pineapple, beach flavors, and cheap smoothies.  I give this Frutista Freeze a C+.

A Brief History of McDonald's

What better way to start off the blog then with the most famous of restaurant chains.  McDonald's, now synonymous with 'fast food', started small, and like any other popular restaurant, hit it off with a killer receipe.

McDonald's, founded by Dick and Mac McDonald (brothers), began in 1948.  The menu had just nine items on it.  A hamburger, cheeseburger, soda pop, coffee, milk, potato chips, and a slice of pie.  The hamburger, their feature item, cost just 15 cents.  A year later, in 1949, they replaced their potato chips with french fries.  McDonald's french fries were a huge hit and are still a basic menu item today.  The same year, milkshakes, Triple Thick Milkshakes to be exact, were also released.  Business was booming and the McDonald's brothers were looking for a franchising agent. Ray Croc, an intrigued multi-mixer salesmen, took interest to to the franchise and ended up as their nationwide agent in 1954.
McDonald's grew and grew over the years, selling its 100 millionth hamburger in 1958, and opening its 100th restaurant in 1959, located in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin.  The company hit many benchmarks in the next ten years.  McDonald's went international, added indoor seating, broadcasted a television commercial, and launched its world famous 'Big Mac'.  The history goes on and on with increasing success, new items are released, people die, and the rest is history.  (How tacky)
